Windows Protocol Handler Setup with FileZilla Pro

On Windows, FileZilla Pro registers itself, at installation time, as a URL handler for the protocols
FTP, FTPS, FTPES (explicit FTPS), SFTP and S3.

Please note, however, that it is the operating system that decides which application to use when a URL is clicked.

If there is another application registered for the same protocol and selected as preferred application, the operating system will launch that application instead of FileZilla Pro.

On Microsoft Windows, you can check which application is registered for a protocol by following these steps:

  1. Open the Settings application.
  2. Go to Apps.
  3. Choose Default apps.
  4. Scroll down and click on Choose default apps by protocol (on Windows 11, Choose defaults by link type).
  5. Look for the desired protocol on the left side and verify that FileZilla Pro is set as the handler. If not, click on the handler and select FileZilla Pro from the list.

For details on URL handling in macOS, refer to the Setting up FileZilla Pro as URL Handler on macOSarticle.
