How to Upload Files to OneDrive

FileZilla Pro supports OneDrive Personal and OneDrive for Business and SharePoint.

This feature is only available on FileZilla Pro, if you didn’t buy it yet you can buy FileZilla Pro from our Store.

Below you find a step by step guide, if you prefer you can watch our How to Upload Files to OneDrive video tutorial.

What you’ll need to upload files to OneDrive:

  • A OneDrive account
  • Your OneDrive login details (these will usually be the same as your Microsoft login)
  • For OneDrive for Business and SharePoint your account is provided by your organization administrator

Note: If FileZilla Pro is configured to save passwords protected by a master password (see Protect Passwords with a Master Password), you’ll only need to authenticate it for use with OneDrive once; it will save the access token for future connections.

Configuring FileZilla Pro for OneDrive

  1. In the menu bar, click on File › Site Manager…. See Using Site Manager for more details.
  2. Click on New Site.
  3. Select Microsoft OneDrive from the Protocol drop down list.
  4. Optionally enter a login as a hint for Microsoft authentication.
  5. Click on Connect.
  6. FileZilla Pro launches the default browser, then you need to authenticate and grant access.
  7. Enter your credentials to continue.

  8. OneDrive asks to grant access.
  9. Click Yes.

  10. An authorization code is generated.
  11. Copy the code to the clipboard or click the Copy to clipboard button.

  12. Paste the code in the Authorization window or click the Paste from clipboard button.
  13. FileZilla Pro will check the server’s TLS certificate and display a window like this:
  14. Check the server certificate details displayed – Common name should include microsoftonline.com.

    Click OK.

  15. Your OneDrive directories and files will be displayed in the Remote directories section of the main window.

    If your OneDrive account is a personal OneDrive account you will see the following directories:

    • My Drives, with your personal OneDrive drives;
    • Shared with Me, with items shared with you by other users.

    If your account is OneDrive for Business account you will also see:

    • the directory Groups with your organization group drives;
    • SharePoint with your organization SharePoint drives;
    • Sites with your organization site drives

You can now transfer files between your local machine and your OneDrive account.

How to access Microsoft OneDrive for Business and SharePoint

You will need the organization administrator credentials to grant access on behalf of the organization,
otherwise regular organization users will not be able to use FileZilla Pro to access their drives. Please
note that newly created users do not have OneDrive provisioned by default. For provisioning, the
user must access OneDrive at least once at https://portal.office.com/.

  1. Create a site entry for your OneDrive for Business connection.
  2. Click Connect to start the authorization process.
  3. Enter the organization administrator credentials.
  4. In the permissions requested page mark the option Consent on behalf of your organization.
  5. Choose Accept to grant access.

Now you are connected as the organization administrator and other organization users can also use
FileZilla Pro to access their OneDrive files.
