10,000 Five-Star Ratings on the Mac App Store: Thank You

Posted in Blog

FileZilla Pro has passed 10,000 five-star ratings on the Mac App Store. As of October 2026, 10,001 of its 12,538 ratings are five stars, and the average is 4.5 out of 5. Those figures cover the macOS app across all regions and all versions.

Thank you. Every one of those ratings came from someone who stopped what they were doing to tell Apple, and us, that the app was worth their time. We don’t take that lightly.

The numbers

Rating Ratings Share
5 stars 10,001 79.8%
4 stars 1,041 8.3%
3 stars 236 1.9%
2 stars 105 0.8%
1 star 1,155 9.2%
Total 12,538 100%

Put another way, 88% of the ratings are four or five stars. We’d rather show you the whole distribution than only the part that makes us look good, and we come back to the lower ratings below.

What the number means in context

A rating count is hard to judge on its own, so here is some context. According to 42matters, about 62.6% of the roughly 2.7 million apps on the iOS App Store had no ratings at all as of October 2026. And among apps with at least 100 ratings across iOS and Google Play, MWM puts the median average rating at 4.28 out of 5 (May 2026).

These are iOS and cross-platform figures rather than Mac-specific ones, so read them as a sense of scale, not a ranking. We haven’t found a published count of how many apps have reached 10,000 five-star ratings, and we won’t guess at one.

What Mac users tell us

The reviews on the Mac App Store are where we hear most directly what people do with FileZilla Pro. Several describe moving large files reliably and resuming interrupted transfers; one reviewer wrote about moving a 600 GB file without trouble. That is the job FileZilla Pro is meant to do, and it is good to see it recognized.

On the Mac, FileZilla Pro works with FTP, FTPS, SFTP and WebDAV, as well as cloud storage including Amazon S3, Backblaze B2, Box, Dropbox, Google Cloud Storage, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Microsoft Azure Storage and OpenStack Swift. It has a tabbed interface, a Site Manager, a transfer queue for large batches of files, and a user interface in more than 50 languages. See FileZilla Pro for Mac for the full picture.

The lower ratings

A rating system has a less comfortable side, and we’d rather talk about it. 1,155 of the ratings, 9.2%, are one star. We read them, and we know what most of them are about.

FileZilla Pro is a subscription with a 7-day free trial. The Mac App Store lists apps like this as “Free”, with in-app purchases, so many people download it expecting a free app, then find out when the trial ends that it isn’t. The subscription terms are in the app’s description, but a “Free” label is what most people see first, and we understand why some of them felt misled and rated the app one star. If that was you, we’re sorry for the confusion. You can cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, and our guide explains how to install and manage FileZilla Pro from the Mac App Store. And if the free, open-source FileZilla Client covers what you need, it may be the better fit.

That isn’t the whole story, though. A smaller number of low ratings have other causes, such as slow performance, and those are the reports we most want to hear about. If you’ve had a bad experience, the most useful thing you can do is tell us the details: your FileZilla Pro version, your macOS version, the protocol and the steps that led to the problem. Our customer forum is the quickest route, and a report we can reproduce is one we can act on.

Thank you, and a small request

If FileZilla Pro saves you time, a rating or a short review in the Mac App Store helps other people decide whether it’s right for them, and it helps us see what matters to you. If you aren’t sure how to get the app, our guide explains how to install FileZilla Pro from the Mac App Store.

To everyone who has rated FileZilla Pro, to those who wrote a review, and to those who sent us a bug report: thank you.
